David Goes to School
(Ages 2-8)
Despite his spherical head, the protagonist of David Shannon's David Goes to School is no Charlie Brown. He's distinguished from that other pumpkin-head by a disturbingly triangular nose and by his teeth, which appear to be all canines. He's also less nebbish and more disaster. In this most recent work he takes his instinct for the wrong move, familiar to many parents, into the classroom. Adults may notice the richness of Shannon's colors and the close-up cropping of his drawings. Kids will recognize the pencil-like printing, done on the timeless school paper with dotted midline. Both parents and kids will love the fact that David ultimately redeems himself, making a right move at last.
