The Dadmag Guide To Children's Books

 |
Edward's Overwhelming Overnight
(Ages 2-8)
Edward looks like a very young bear but he's painfully human when he faces a big challenge in Edward's Overwhelming Overnight. Snowbound while playing at a friend's house, he can't even eat supper because he's so worried about spending the night away from his parents. Rosemary Wells uses her drawings to focus on Edward's doubtful, not to say frantic, facial expressions, which provide wry counterpoint to the narration. The friend's parents do eventually find a solution. Edward deals with school and swimming in subsequent titles.
