The Dadmag Guide To Children's Books

 |
Pat the Bunny
(Baby-preschool)
When kids are too young to do much more than chew a book-- when they can't pull a tab or even turn a page--how can reading be more than a dental experience? Dorothy Kunhardt's Pat the Bunny involves infants via smell, touch, and vision, leaving teething behind. You show them the pictures of a boy and girl using various senses and then they try it for themselves, smelling a scented flower picture, for example, or touching the sandpapered beard of the Dad. You might be put off by the primitive drawing, but kids aren't. Instead, they begin to think of books as a source of sensorial fun.
