The Wheels on the Bus
(Ages 2-8)
In Paul Zelinsky's hands, The Wheels on the Bus, an easily overplayed pre-school song, becomes a colorful joy for young kids and their parents. Kids get to spin wheels and pull tabs that activate parts of Zelinsky's rainbow-hued, wide-angle, and cheerily humane illustrations. They also begin to notice other stories going on: both bus passengers and competing motorists are involved in their own missions. The paper engineering, by Rodger Smith, not only allows kids to swish the windshield wipers and jerk the driver's thumb, but to rock the riders as well.
